Magpies are known for their love for shiny objects. This bird (Latin pica pica) also is associated in European culture with various superstitions. One of the best known in the UK involves predicting the future according to the number of magpies gathered together in one place:
'1 for sorrow, 2 for joy, 3 for a girl, 4 for a boy, 5 for silver, 6 for gold, seven for a secret never to be told.'

'Pica pica 1' can be worn as a ring before left in the grass to be taken away by a Magpie.
